SVC in the 70’s
The March 1977 Vol 1 No 1 of Sage Tazi – shows that the SCV had 50 Victorian members, 9 of whom are still ‘financial’ including the current President , Secretary and three Committee members. Of the inter-state members then listed, one is now President of the NSW Club and another, its Secretary. Less active is South Australian judge Sue Braddock-Smith. Of the others named in this 1977 edition, SCV Life Member Brenda Connell still takes a lively interest in the Club’s activities and former President Julian Guthrie (still surrounded by Salukis in both his business and private life), continues to correspond and contribute substantially to Saluki networks and links across the globe. Other early names still active include West Australian breeder and judge, Rita Trevenan who judged the Club’s 34th Specialty in 2010. Many who contributed substantially to the Club in the early days have since passed away. These include Tom Nicholls,(the consummate Club man who, before the advent of the internet and social networks, made pen-friends around the world as the Club’s long-serving Publicity Officer), Bill Hargreaves, Marilyn Scott (both of NSW), Anne Pawson and Peter Ward. The Club also acknowledges deceased Honorary Members, in particular, Jack McDonald, Ron Duffin and Jonathan Horswell (UK).
